Joslin Diabetes Centre, Harvard University

The Joslin Summer Research Student Internship Program provides 8-12 weeks of practical exposure to diabetes-related biomedical research, ranging from clinically focused to basic science investigation. In addition to direct laboratory experience and interactions with Joslin investigators, students participate in didactic sessions related to diabetes pathophysiology and treatment. During the course of the program, participants present results from their research efforts to their student colleagues and Joslin research staff.

The Nuffield Department of Medicine offers opportunities for summer studentships to undergraduate and Masters students. You will get the opportunity to work in a laboratory environment with an Oxford University Principal Investigator (PI) and their team in the Nuffield Department of Medicine (NDM) for a period of approximately eight weeks, normally in July and August. You will also get the opportunity to live in Oxford – one of the most beautiful and historic cities in the UK.

Funding will be provided to cover accommodation and living costs throughout the two-month placement in an NDM research laboratory.

You will need to cover your own travel expenses and medical insurance costs.

The DCAT vacation studentship scheme offers students at the University of Dundee the unique opportunity to work in a research environment during their summer break, with a large selection of varied projects to select from (in 2023 there were 19 projects available).  

• Projects typically last 4-8 weeks, and students get hands on experience of a research project.
• They may be held in research groups across the University of Dundee and are not restricted to laboratory work.
• These studentships generally offer a monthly payment at the ‘real living wage’ (depending on the funding body), and if you are unsuccessful in securing funding from external bodies, internal funding is available from various funds held within the University.
• Upon completion of the project, students are expected to write up their work in the form of an abstract.

The Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health runs a number of schemes to help current undergraduate students undertake a research placement over the summer. 

These placements are designed for students in the middle year of their undergraduate degree and provide research experience to those students looking to gain practical experience in the lab.
